He's quit his job after losing it during an outburst in front of customers. Depression, anger, and thoughts of suicide plague him daily. He goes by the name "Norm", but his friends at the dog shelter call him "Joker". After his mother dies, he's forced to return to his native Gotham City in order to take care of her dog named Puddin'. While out in a bar, he sees a man cheating at a game of pool. Joker convinces the man to play another game for money, which he wins. He tells the man that they are not friends because there is no honor among thieves. The next day Joker takes Puddin' for a walk during which they meet an eccentric homeless man who believes that God has spoken to him through radios. Joker is visited by his former psychiatrist, Dr. Thompkins. After some persuasion she gets him to agree to see her again regularly and they discuss his life and future in a positive way, which Joker is very much in need of after years of therapy and medication. During their conversation he reveals that I'm not my father's son and that I'm my mother's secret that she was hiding from him. Later, while at work at the shelter, he gets into an argument with an acquaintance who says that Gotham is no place for a young guy like him to be hanging around in. Joker reacts by throwing a chair at the man, who beats him up. Dr. Thompkins goes to visit Joker at the shelter where he works and he tells her that he's decided to leave Gotham. She dares him to make an attempt to live his life for himself rather than simply surviving day-to-day. The next day, Joker encounters Harvey Dent before boarding a bus out of Gotham. The bus crashes due to a pileup on the bridge, but Joker escapes unharmed. While attending Dr. Thompkins's group therapy classes, Joker listens as everyone talks about how loved ones have hurt them beyond repair and how they are all just waiting for their "moment". cfa1e77820
